I’m so happy to see you here!! Teaching theatre is one of the great joys of my life, and I am thrilled that you have chosen to share that with me!

At HML, we currently have seven levels of Theatre class: 1, 2, 3, 4; Musical Theatre; and Theatre Tech 1 and 2. Each class is designed to focus on different aspects of theatre.

Theatre 1 and 2 – In these courses, we focus on the basics of acting and public presentation. We will learn and develop the skills that ALL people need to succeed in life. Recent research shows that colleges and employers are searching for people with “soft skills.” To that end, in Theatre 1 and 2, we will focus on:

• Communication/Problem Solving/Creativity – creating and delivering engaging public presentations
• Teamwork/Interpersonal Skills/Adaptability – working cooperatively in various size teams
• Time Management/Work Ethic/Attention to Detail – working to fixed deadlines to produce a quality product or presentation
• Leadership – learning that leadership is not just being the “boss;” rather it is working with all of the members of your team to ensure success.

Advanced Theatre – In this course, we work on more advanced skills and put on formal performances. We will focus on advanced acting techniques, directing, memorization of formal scripts, and whole-class formal productions.

Musical Theatre – This course is taught by HML’s Dance and English Teacher, Ms. Santillan.

Theatre Tech – In these courses, we focus on the entry level of specific theatre skills. While maintaining our whole-life-skills-for-success mission, we will learn skills in the following areas:

• Costume Design and Creation
• Set Design and Creation
• Lighting
• Directing
• The Business of Theatre – budgeting, advertising/publicity, scheduling, and more.
